Windrush Music Back In Time

2024 marks the 76th anniversary of the arrival of the Empire Windrush on 22 June 1948 which has come to symbolise the dawning of a new age of post-war migration to Britain.

Come along to our music jam where our topic will be The Windrush Playlist.

New and exciting music accompanied those arriving from the Caribbean, adding to the mix that had thrown up the American imports of rock and roll and jazz, and the home-grown pop of the Beatles. For the young in the fifties and sixties it was a time of music to dance to, lyrics to weep or laugh with, and generally display our rebellion and energy.

Dance halls, jazz clubs, discos and festivals were places where we could hear new music, but also, more seriously, Churches – usually outside the mainstream – vibrated with passionate gospel singing, bringing a new sound to the streets outside.

Join us as we celebrate the Windrush generation! Saturday 22 June 2024.

Group therapeutic sessions bring participants together in a relaxed, fun environment. You can share thoughts about your favourite music, songs, art and poetry. You may also enjoy writing a song to share with others.

The project aims to confront those difficult conversations, and offer comfort and hope through music.

M.A.D in Uganda 22 May – 4 June 2023

An opportunity to change a life in Uganda’s capital Kampala and it’s surrounding shanty towns. Motivated volunteers needed to make a difference and participate in programs which include business model development, community engagement, and cultural exchange. Other volunteer opportunities include Social Work with Children, health education, youth work, schools work, sports coaching and many more.

When volunteering with us you will have the opportunity to not only change lives, but the people you will help might just change yours. You will gain an invaluable cultural experience through interactions with the locals as you will be living, eating, working, and laughing with those you are helping. It can be an eye opening experience that brings lasting friendships and increased awareness about the world around you.

We work with communities to create opportunities for disadvantaged children and young people to learn, develop and heal through a fun and relaxed environment.

The programme will include:

  • Poultry project
  • working alongside a local community
  • exploring Uganda in your free time
  • developing youth entrepreneurship
  • agriculture
  • Get creative – If art, drama or music is your thing then consider sharing your creative talents on our Fresh Vybez Music and Medial Project. With limited equipment, you’ll need to be imaginative.
