Generationz in Style

Generationz in Style is an intergenerational clothing Upcycling project designed to bring together different age groups primarily from the community of Maryland and Forest Gate through fashion and design workshops to foster mutually beneficial interactions. Participants young and old will take part in creative fashion and textile workshops to explore ageism, empathy, and sustainability, while addressing the environmental impact of fast fashion and fostering intergenerational collaboration. The project seeks to bridge the gap between older and younger generations, especially with regards to passing down culture, tradition, journeys and other experiences.

Action Plus Residential

Pioneer  residential was cracking!

20 young people and team of 6 youth workers took part in a weekend residential trip at Pioneer Centre, Kidderminster from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th August 2025. The young people worked hard to overcome personal fears by joining outdoor activities including canoeing and abseiling and pushed themselves to work with new people, helping to build their self-esteem and confidence.Our young people did themselves and their families proud.

DESCENT TALK PODCAST

A Podcast to mark the 76th anniversary of the Empire Windrush’s arrival in Britain. The first Windrush generation moved to the UK by invitation between 1945-1960. 

If you are a descendant of the Windrush generation and are interested in taking part in this new podcast series, we would love to hear from you. It would involve a 15-minute informal interview that we will use to turn into a podcast about how you have benefited from volunteering. If you know any Windrush members who would also be happy to take part in the podcast, it would be great to interview them as well.

Youth Social Action in Action

Young people are volunteering their time to reach out to the elderly in the community in a safe way. Making older people to feel more loved and cared for.

We would like to thank BBC Children in Need for their support through We Move Fund which has made this project possible. Through the 18-months project, we have engaged and empowered 400 young people focusing particularly on serving the elderly citizens.

This is successful for one reason. We ensure more young people in our community have their voices heard and given the opportunity to design and lead on the issues that matter to them.

During Volunteers’ Week in June, we will come together to recognise and celebrate the impact of our youth social action.

Windrush Music Back In Time

⁠2024 marks the 76th anniversary of the arrival of the Empire Windrush on 22 June 1948 which has come to symbolise the dawning of a new age of post-war migration to Britain.

Come along to our music jam where our topic will be The Windrush Playlist.

New and exciting music accompanied those arriving from the Caribbean, adding to the mix that had thrown up the American imports of rock and roll and jazz, and the home-grown pop of the Beatles. For the young in the fifties and sixties it was a time of music to dance to, lyrics to weep or laugh with, and generally display our rebellion and energy.

Dance halls, jazz clubs, discos and festivals were places where we could hear new music, but also, more seriously, Churches – usually outside the mainstream – vibrated with passionate gospel singing, bringing a new sound to the streets outside.

Join us as we celebrate the Windrush generation! Saturday 22 June 2024.
